Monster Menagerie

................. Monster Books and Magazines

Here are books and magazines that contain monsters and/or have a supernatural theme.

Sacry Monsters Magazine #73 is on stands now!

Check it out from their site www.scarymonstersmag.com or pick up a copy at Barnes & Noble!

Pride and Prejudice and Zombies

by Seth Grahame-Smith

Take a classic chick novel that was written in 1813 and add a full-scale, flesh-eating zombie attack  –that’s what Seth Grahame-Smith did to Jane Austen’s beloved novel.  Will Mr. Darcy find the courage to talk to Miss Bennett? Or will he eat her brains?  Maybe he lacks the guts altogether.

A Field Guide to Monsters: This Book Could Save Your Life

by Dave Elliott

This book has two different covers with two different titles (“Monsters: A Field Guide To Blood-Thirsty Beast" is the other title).  The other cover has a still from I Was Teenage Werewolf. The insides are the same.  It’s written like a bird watcher’s guide, but for monster watchers -and it's funny!

Uzumaki by Junji Ito

I promise not to review too many comic books and manga on this site, but this series is very well done and totally messed up!  There are three volumes from Viz Media.

Museum of Terror

by Junji Ito

Mr. Ito Does it again with wonderfully disturbing stores of the girl that everyone is obsessed with and how far they will go to get her.  Two volumes from Dark Horse

                Hell House

by Alison Rattle & Allison Vale.  Barnes & Noble published this novelty book of true hauntings from around the world.  I like the collection of stories –but the glass marble eyes on the cover stick out too much and will damage the cover of any book that is unfortunate enough to be next to it.  The cover looks like hand-tooled leather -that's cool..  Check uner the bed before reading!

How to Hunt Ghost: a Practical Guide

by Joshua P. Warren

A very good book for the practiced ghost hunter or for anyone who is curious about sprits.  The book classifies types of hauntings; has step-by-step ways to investigate disturbances; and presents case files that will make you want to sleep with the light on!

The Zombie Survival Guide

by Max Brooks

This is the  handbook to grab for when the city is being overrun with zombies!  Grab this book, a chainsaw, shotgun and a cricket bat!

The Worst-Case Scenario Survival Handbook: Extreme Edition

By Joshua Piven & David Borgenicht

If you ever wondered how you would survive being buried alive or how to escape from an angry gorilla, this is the book for you!  Very fun reading!

Bernie Wrightson’s Frankenstein.  That’s Mary Shelley’s classic novel Frankenstein with Illustrations by artist Bernie Wrightson.  It has Beautiful drawings that will leave you staring at each picture for hours.

Charms Spells & Formulas

By Ray L. Malbrough

I found this book in a shop in Danish community in California I’m not kidding!  The book is very entertaining and explains concepts very well.  The only problem I have with is that in order to make the charms, the author suggests that you find a quite room in the house and unplug the phone –I guess he doesn’t have kids!
